Exhibition Series 1: Hong Kong Festivals and Folk Crafts
This exhibition connects intangible cultural heritage items with four types of sounds, including "throat", "instrument", "body" and "scenery", which respectively refer to the sound produced by the throat, the collision sound produced by tools during the production process, and the sound produced by body movements. the noises and noises heard on different celebratory occasions. The exhibits are selected from the elaborate productions made by intangible cultural heritage inheritors for festivals, sacred birthdays, ceremonies and rituals, as well as their related materials and tools.

Sam Tung Uk, a historical treasure in Hong Kong, not only embodies the architectural techniques and wisdom of the forefathers, but also embodies traditional rural culture. It is not difficult to find the footprints of intangible cultural heritage (intangible cultural heritage) in it. In view of this, this exhibition uses four main houses located on the central axis of Three Houses to display the historical context and architectural features of Three Houses, as well as the life rituals and food culture of Hong Kong's traditional villages, allowing visitors to understand Through intangible cultural heritage projects related to traditional villages, you can understand the cultural connotation of Santongwu and experience the old rural life and culture from multiple perspectives.
About the Museum
Sam Tung Uk is a 200-year-old Hakka walled village that was declared a monument in 1981. It was converted into the Sam Tung Uk Museum and open to the public after restoration in 1987.
The Sam Tung Uk Museum covers 2,000 square metres. Its symmetrical layout resembles a chessboard with an entrance hall, a middle hall and an ancestral hall in the central axis. With four individual dwellings in the centre, the premises are completely walled in by rows of houses on each side and at the back.
To offer an enriching and inspiring visiting experience, Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Centre at Sam Tung Uk Museum underwent a large-scale exhibition revamp in late 2020. The revamp works have been the largest ever since the inception of the Hong Kong ICH Centre. With more artistic and multimedia elements added, the new exhibition series "Lost and Sound — Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage" reinterprets local traditional culture in an innovative and creative way, enabling visitors to learn more about Hong Kong ICH and the history, culture and architectural features of Sam Tung Uk.
