The novel was made into a Hollywood movie played by Willian Holden and Jennifer Jones in 1956. Parts of the film were filmed in Hong Kong locations (former location of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club, the former Repulse Bay Hotel etc). Jennifer Jones was nominated for Best Actress in the Academy Awards. The film won Best Costume Design, Best Scoring of a Dramatic or a Comedy Picture, and Best Song in the Academy Awards, and won the Golden Globe Awards for “Best Film Promoting International Understanding”
